🌿 Session 1
Monster Creation and Story Discovery
👦🏻 Target Age: 5-7 years
⏰ Session Duration: approximately 30 minutes
Objectives: Help students develop mental images based on a story inspired by a children's book.
Space: Classroom or other suitable area
Arrangement: Children are seated in a circle
🎯 Learning Objectives
This first session is dedicated to discovering the story and sharing it collectively.
First, the teacher begins the story by asking questions about the Groumf’s appearance. The monster’s physical traits are a collaborative creation between teacher and students. Its appearance may change in future sessions.
Next, the teacher narrates the story.
Finally, the teacher facilitates a group discussion, asking students how they experienced the story.
🟢 Step 1: Collective invention of today’s Groumf
> Teacher: facilitates and guides the collective creation
> Students: listen and participate
🗣️ Example of interaction:
Do you know the Groumf?
It’s a monster that lives in caves!
Do you know what a cave is? It’s a big hole in the mountain. It always lives in the same place, but every time we start the story,
it changes shape.
Let’s imagine its shape for today together!
Close your eyes: a monster living in a hole in the mountain, how do you see it?
How tall is it? Who thinks it’s as tall as my hand? Like a dresser? Like a tree? Like a house?
Who sees it with fur? Who sees it with scales? Who sees it with feathers?
So today it will have…
Who thinks it has four legs? Two legs?
Who thinks it crawls on the ground?
Who thinks it has wings?
So today…
How many eyes does it have? Two? Four? Six?
So today…
And its color?
🟢 Step 2: Teacher narrates the Groumf hunt
The teacher reads the text aloud or retells it in their own words.
Students: listen attentively

🟢 Step 3: Gathering and sharing experiences
The teacher encourages discussion about the shared experience. Students are guided to express their mental images using the five senses.
Students put their impressions from listening into words.
🗣️ Example of interaction:
The teacher asks:
“What images come to mind for:
The cave?
The forest?
The mud?
The river?
The meadow?”
Observe that students mention visual images, but also sensations such as smells, tastes, touch, and sounds.
